The very first professionally published kid’s book on donor conception

helpng families with Important conversations with their donor conceived children…

Research shows that you should talk to your donor-conceived child about their origins as early as possible, yet, it’s the hardest thing for most parents to do. This book can help you communicate difficult, yet beautiful, love stories with pride.

and this book isn’t just for donor conceived families!

The goal of this book is to normalize donor conception, the way adoption is now celebrated and accepted, and it starts with you. Our Hearts Match is a book all families need to read to truly see the bond that can exist between a parent and child outside of DNA. This mother/child combo is proof that we don’t have to match to have dino-mite love and deep soul connection.

This colorful picture book for children ages 2 to 6 tells the story of a T-Rex mother who hatches and raises a Brontosaurus baby. The Brontosaurus baby notices that there are things about them that don’t match—the length of their necks, their sizes, their color. But she also notices that there are things about them that do match—the way they both love to dance, their roars, their smiles, and, finally, their hearts!

Our Hearts Match is a heartwarming story that empowers families via donor conception to celebrate their unique story.

Why is this book so important?

Many parents delay telling their children about their conception in fear of rejection, as a result of their own fears. We know this is not ideal for children, or for the parents ultimately, as the longer we wait, the more risk there is for trauma. Secrets imply shame, yet without the proper tools to talk about it, it can feel easier to just sweep the story under the rug for years and years.

Seeing our conception journeys through the eyes of a child, through a playful dinosaur love story, can also help parents come to a place of acceptance and pride. I used to read kids books about donor conception when I was pregnant with Florence and they helped me tremendously. I believe this book can help intended and recipient parents process these hard feelings and shift their perspectives to a more beautiful lens, and ultimately get them excited about telling the story.... and let’s be honest, kids of all genders and ages love dinosaurs!

This book is different than any of the other kids books I’ve read on donor conception, it addresses the genetic differences of a mother and child from someone else’s egg with pride, while focusing on the strong bond they share. It also shows how your child can still “get things from you” even if you don’t share the same genetics. Things like smile and sense of humor.

All of these things should be celebrated!

Come celebrate the beauty and joy of unique families, like mine. They are definitely worth celebrating!
